Polyclinico Umberto I wayfinding system
Interviews with patients and staff
-Users appreciate navigation apps for their ability to provide directions, but find them overwhelming with too many features.
-Finding easily the desired buildings upon huge numbers of them.
-Highlighting key areas such as emergency department, specific clinics, restrooms, and cafeterias is essential.Users often rely on signage or asking hospital staff when they get lost or confused.
-Step-by-step directions are preferred over just showing a map, especially in complex environments like hospitals.

Features
When designing the homepage, I placed the search bar at the bottom to ensure easy access with one hand and a voice option for accessibility. Analysing the competitors, I observed from competetors that ‘Saved’ locations is frequently used, so I positioned it below the search bar for quick access.
In the top section of the application, I've integrated a tri-state toggle switch designed to enhance user navigation. Users can select between three distinct states: "Walking": This option highlights the shortest walking routes for patients, ensuring efficient movement within Umberto 1 Polyclinic."Driving": By selecting this state, users can access roadways suitable for vehicular traffic within the polyclinic grounds, facilitating navigation for drivers."Wheelchair Accessible Routes": This feature presents pathways specifically tailored for wheelchair users, guiding them to entrances equipped with ramps for accessibility. These routes are carefully curated to ensure a seamless experience for individuals with mobility challenges.
By utilizing data obtained from Google Maps, our application can display a map highlighting routes that are accessible to wheelchairs. This data extraction enables us to provide users with tailored navigation options within our app.
Long list of departments, and how to orginize them ?
One of the primary challenges at Umberto 1 Polyclinic is the extensive list of departments, totaling nearly 60. To address this issue and improve accessibility and ease of navigation, I've implemented a system based on the clinic's guidelines. This system divides the polyclinic into four regions, each assigned a distinct color and code from A to D. This approach streamlines department organization, making it simpler for users to locate and navigate within the facility.
